Curriculum & Pedagogy

The National Education Policy of India 2020 (NEP 2020), approved by the Union Cabinet on 29 July 2020, charts a transformative vision for the Indian education system. It replaces the National Policy on Education of 1986 and aims to create an education system deeply rooted in Indian ethos, capable of making India a global knowledge superpower by providing high-quality education to all learners.

Highlights of the New Education Policy

  • Focus on Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) and Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN)

  • Reducing school dropouts and ensuring universal access at all levels

  • Emphasis on learning that is holistic, integrated, enjoyable, and engaging

  • Teacher empowerment to enhance educational delivery

  • Promotion of equitable and inclusive education — learning opportunities for all

  • Introduction of standard-setting and accreditation for schools

  • Adoption of pedagogically sound teaching and learning practices

  • Integration of technology in teaching, learning, and assessment
